Riding on a birdie binge, five in a row to be precise, and an eagle to boot, world number one Tiger Woods sizzled with a second round card of 63 to grab the halfway lead in the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
It was a scintillating front nine run by the iconic American at East Lake. Woods parred the first three holes before reeling off five birdies in a row and completed the front nine in style, with an eagle.
It was an extraordinary display spread over six holes as Woods played near-perfect golf that had his peers gasping in awe.
Woods felt he found the rhythm and things were easy thereafter. He said
You just play shot for shot. You place the golf ball and you don’t worry about anything else. I didn’t know I shot 7 under on the front nine. I don’t know if it’s a zone or not.
I just felt that the rhythm was good.
His two-day total of 13-under 127 puts him three strokes ahead of fellow American Woody Austin, who carded 65. The trio of Mark Calcavecchia (66), Tim Clark (69) and defending champion, Adam Scott (66) are just one stroke behind, sharing the third spot.
