tiger woods wins uspga titleIconic American Tiger Woods staved off spirited challenge from Ernie Els and Woody Austin to win the US PGA title, his first Major crown this year.

Going into the final with a three-shot lead over the pack, defending champion Woods carded one-under 69 that sealed the issue in his favour and earned him his 13th Major title.

It was also a significant leap for the numero uno golfer, who inched closer towards Jack Nicklaus’ world record of 18 Major titles.

It also meant that Woods managed to defend his title twice in the history of the US PGA. This was his fourth title here and he is just one crown short of compatriots Nicklaus and Walter Hagen who have won its five times each.

It was all the more pleasing for Woods as his wife Elin and daughter Sam were present in the course as he swung to glory.

Woods said

That is a feeling I have never experienced before and to have her (Sam) here brings chills to me even now. It’s so cool.

For a golfer of his caliber, it was rather surprising that Woods went title-less in Majors this year. Woods finished second both at Masters and US Open and was tied for 12th at the Open Championship.
