Formula one buffs in America can eat their heart out. After widespread speculations, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has finally announced that there will be no US Grand Prix next year.
Ecclestone has been insisting that US was not vital for F1 and instead was more keen on taking the show to other parts of the globe, especially Asia and Singapore and Valencia are widely expected to feature in the F1 calendar.
Ecclestone said
We didn’t reach an agreement. Let’s see if we miss America.
As of now, there is no American F1 team and the lone American driver is Scott Speed. Of late race at Indianapolis has seen a sharp decline in crowd turn out and it was more or less inevitable that US would fall off the F1 radar.
Incidentally, future does not look good for French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours as well and it may be dropped from F1 calendar as well owing to financial woes. What makes the F1 boss confident is that there is no dearth of replacement and Abu Dhabi and South Korea have already been put in the list for 2009 and 2010 respectively.
