Just when the things had started going the Giants way, and the team looked like gelling together - San Francisco Giants seem to have lost the clutch on Barry Bond’s contract with the Club.
Bond reportedly tested positive for amphetamines last season and had attributed the failure to a substance he had taken from teammate Mark Sweeney’s locker, also putting the latter’s career at stake.
Although, Bond denies the allegation, but the list of accountability will be long for the veteran - beginning right away from the effect of the blood booster in chase of the Hank Aaron’s home run record (that he trails by mere 22), to his career with the Giants and at the Major League Baseball.
The seven times National League MVP, Bond will start in the 15th MLB season for which he was reported to have reached a consensus with San Francisco Giants, on $16 million for one year deal, which is yet to be signed and could now be in jeopardy if he is proven guilty (citing the strict MLB policy over the issues concerning Performance enhancers).
The players of Bond’s caliber are well acquainted with substances that should be consumed and the one’s that should be avoided, and if veterans like him cannot refrain themselves from such illegal acts then expecting it from the youth would be a mere fantasy. However, it wouldn’t be appropriate to make an evaluation before hand and the official decision on the matter should be awaited.
