The NFL mourns and pays tribute to the coaching great Bill Walsh after his prolong battle against leukemia finally ended, following his demise. His wife and two children survive the legend aged about, 75.

Winning a trio of Super Bowls, nicknamed ‘The Genius’ Walsh established himself as a coaching pioneer to introduce innovative strategies and game plans in perfecting the tactics popularly known as the West Coast offence.

A lot of painstaking effort and credit owes to Walsh for transforming the San Francisco 49ers to great guns who were earlier considered as laughing-stock.

He left a permanent mark on American football and was the man behind establishing Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Charles Haley and Jerry Rice, all among the greatest players ever to play at their respective positions. Walsh’s feat with the 49ers rewarded him with the coveted Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

Named the NFL coach of the year in 1981 and 1984 and also lended his hands to establish the World League of American Football, which was formerly known as NFL Europe until 1994.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement:

The essence of Bill Walsh was that he was an extraordinary teacher. If you gave him a blackboard and a piece of chalk, he would become a whirlwind of wisdom. He taught all of us not only about football but also about life and how it takes teamwork for any of us to succeed as individuals.

I however, bid adieu to the pioneer of the American Football League and the greatest coaching sensation of all times.
