With a lead of 68 of 160 laps, Tony Stewart nicknamed as the ‘Rushville Rocket’ driving for General Motors largest brand ‘The Chevrolet’ sprinted to his second victory in three years at the Brickyard, Indianapolis by thumping his counterpart, Kevin Harvick.
Thrilled Stewart remarked:
I’ll enjoy this one more than the first one. The first one in 2005 was like taking the weight of the world off your shoulders. When you grow up 45 miles from here, and driving down 16th and Georgetown in a wrecker and thinking Man, what it would feel like to be 150 yards inside that fence running 200 mph? I got to come here in stock car and win, that was such a weight off our shoulders ... everyone knew how much. Today, it’s like we’re happy now. It wasn’t like it was the untouchable anymore.
The legend, Formula One driver Michael Schumacher holds the record for most victories, here. Considered a relatively flat motor speedway measuring two and a half miles with rectangular and oval dimensions, earlier posed despair for Stewart but at present, it seems the leader has finally mastered the track.
Stewart’s 2007 racing season is bundled with a gift of many notable invasions, starting the Daytona Speedweeks with a win in the 2007 Budweiser Shootout. At Atlanta Motor Speedway, Stewart was the leader with three laps left to go, but Jimmie Johnson bumped him and went on to win, with Stewart finishing second. In his first Car of Tomorrow race with the Impala SS, Stewart was king at Bristol Motor Speedway, leading 257 of 504 laps. Moreover, citing to the 6th spot with the NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship Point Standings is much to be boasted of. At the Coca-Cola 600, Stewart finished sixth, after losing the fuel gamble. On July 15, 2007, Stewart led a race high of 108 laps and recorded his 30th career Nextel Cup win at the Chicagoland Speedway.
Furthermore, the latest victory has eased Stewart’s way to surface as a hot favorite in winning the Nextel Cup title this coming season.
