Jean de Villiers, Springboks midfielder recounts the sad moments of his World Cup-ending injury. Suffering a ruptured bicep during a victory over Samoa, Villiers faced a similar plight way back in 2003. He is the second leading South African player to be ruled out of the World Cup campaign following the withdrawal of number eight Pierre Spies who developed clots on his lungs.
Springboks team manager Zole Yeye said:
It is a big blow, Jean is devastated. He can’t believe it has happened to him. We are happy with the result against Samoa, but saddened by the news of losing one of our kingpins in Jean. So to speak, it is a moment that contradicts itself.
The whole scenario depicts a big blow for the team preparing for Friday’s night game against England. As a replacement cover, Frans Steyn is prepared to fill the void left by the veteran.
