Last time the two sensations met was at the fiercely contested Wimbledon semifinals in 2005; tennis world was set for another intriguing contest between Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams in the third-round match-up at the Sony Ericsson Open.

However, the match proved least to the expectation of anyone associated - the two were completely out of sorts and the match anywhere to feature in at a championship level.
The stadium court at Crandon Park was filled to capacity only catch a glimpse of flawless tennis - but on the contrary, the match saw whooping 25 double faults, 91 unforced errors and 13 service breaks.
In the fitful display of tennis the top-seeded Maria Sharapova was better off, the Russian came up from behind to beat Venus Williams 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 to march into the fourth round of the $6.9 million event.
Sharapova may have overcome one but the other could be a predicament - Venus’ sister Serena plays Lucie Safarova in a rain delayed game today, with the winner scheduled to play Sharapova.
