Roddick: French hopes down the drainAnkle injury forced American heavyweight Andy Roddick to end his run in the first round of French Open against Alberto Martin of Spain.



Andy Roddick was struggling 6-4, 7-5, 1-0 to the Spaniard when the ankle injury aggravated. Unable to stand on court, Roddick surrounded before Martin. However, Australian tennis sensation Lleyton Hewitt who is also recovering from an ankle injury, defeated Czech Jan Hernych 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 6-2 6-0.



In an another first round match, Tommy Haas beat Rainer Schuettler by 6-4, 6-3 , 6-3. While Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus overcame Spain’s Albert Portas 6-4 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-1.
