Andy Roddick retired with a strained left hamstring in the first set against Andy Murray, making life easier for Murray who advances into the semifinals of the Sony Ericsson Open.

With only eight games into the match, Roddick was stopped by his hamstring from any further play and the America’s No 1 who said his injury occurred while lunging for a shot in the fifth game, called it quits while trailing 5-3 to Murray.

Murray in the semifinals will be up against the World No. 10 Novak Djokovic who overcame the World No. 2 Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4, avenging his defeat at the Indian Wells final two weeks ago.

The scans on Roddick have revealed a grade-one strain, which is not as sever as first thought - and US will hope, Roddick is available for their Davis Cup tie against Spain scheduled for the next weekend.
