geoff willisOn a recruitment spree in order to emerge as a major Formula One force by the next 12 months, Red Bull has roped in former Honda technical director Geoff Willis to bolster its team.

Willis joins the team as technical director, which means he would work again under Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s design chief. Both Willis and Newey worked together at Williams in the 1990s.

Willis quit Honda last year after Shuhei Nakamoto was promoted above him. Now with Willis joining Red Bull, the team’s former technical director Mark Smith’s fate becomes unclear even though the team said that Smith has been offered a senior role.

It is said that Red Bull is aware how the Newey-Willis pair worked wonder for Williams in the last decade and their partnership resulting in four driver’s titles in the period 1992-97.

After he quit Williams, Newey had a successful stint with McLaren as well. Willis, in contrast, had limited success at Honda before he quit.
