Leander Paes is the sole Indian who still maintains the winning feat in both men’s doubles and mixed doubles while other Indians have been out of the contest at Wimbledon.
Indian tennis maestro Leander Paes paring with Martin Damm of Czech outclassed Cyril Suk and Robin Vik of Czech Republic. The 6-2, 6-1 and 7-6 win ensured the India-Czech combine to enter into fourth round of the Wimbledon tennis championships.
Paes advanced to third round in the mixed doubles with Australian Samantha Stosur by defeating Paul Hanley and Tatiana Perebiynis 4-6, 6-3, 12-10.
Leander’s victory brought some cheers for the Indian fans because tennis sensation Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi failed to come up with match-winning performances.
Sania Mirza enforced first round defeat to Russ girl Elena Dementieva. She also lost his doubles battle following her defeat from Russia’s Elena Dementieva and Flavia Pennetta of Italy pairing with Dutch girl Michaella in the second round.
Mahesh Bhupathi and his Chinese partner Zi Yan were out of the mixed doubles facing 6-4, 6-2 defeat from Bob Bryan and Venus Williams of America.
Jeevan Neduncheziya, Rupesh Roy, Vijay and Anand Amritraj were the other Indians ending their battles at Wimbledon.
