The budding Czech sensation Luice Safarova met a nasty end to her dream run at the Australian Open - the 19 year-old Safarova defeated the former champion Amelie Mauresmo in the round of sixteen causing the biggest upset of the tournament - explaining the superiority of youth and agility over experience, marching into the last eight at the years Grand Slam opener.

The youth was further difficult for Safarova to survive as still younger legs forced her to the bit - The 17 year-old compatriot Nicole Vaidisova dumped Safarova in straight sets 6-1 6-4, registering herself into the last four of the Grand Slam, in the process becoming only the first Czech woman to reach the semi finals at Rod Laver Arena since 1991.

The 10th seeded Vaidisova required just 71 minutes to out play the favorite for the game - the Czech is well placed for a most likely semi final clash with the powerhouse of American woman’s tennis (though unseeded yet) Serena Williams, who will previously face Shahar Peer of Israel in the quarterfinals.

UPDATE:

The unseeded Serena Williams was taken all the way to the wire by her Israeli opponent. The American was literally overshadowed by the gutsy play from the 16th seed Peer, however the two time champion managed to sneak through with a 3-6 6-2 8-6 victory, confirming a place in the semifinals against the Czech afore mentioned.
