He’s popular amidst his fanatics for his vivid and grainy approach and has spent eight long years of his baseball career with the Boston Red Sox as their proficient starting right fielder - injuries have played toll on him but his enthusiasm reigns high.

Post being declared a free agent by the Red Sox, outfielder Trot Nixon has contracted a $3 million deal for one-year with the Cleveland Indians, where he will also be joined by former teammate Keith Foulke.

Nixon has had a sparkling career till date, with a total of 982 career games at a batting average of .278 tallying 133 home runs and 523 RBI’s, but of late struggled with a strained right bicep that forced him out of action for two odd months last season. Another worry to his standing is that he has gone on the DL in each of the last three seasons, including two stints in 2004, and has not had 500 at-bats since 2002. He is shaky over his switch, but it’s evident that Cleveland’s have gone through all complexities involved. He quoted,

“Obviously, I don’t want go out and play hurt and eventually hurt the team,” he said. “No. 1 it’s going to effect the team. No. 2, it’s just going to put me more in a hole, meaning having to go on the DL.”

The Cleveland authorities have gone ahead with Nixon’s medical examination and seem content with the result, remaining optimistic of the additional depth that the outfielder would imbibe in the squad.
