For those who thought former world number one Lindsay Davenport’s tennis career is over after she gave berth to her first child, it’s time to correct themselves. The American has announced that she would be back to the court again doing what she does best - playing tennis.
Davenport, who gave berth to son Jagger last month, will pair fellow American Lisa Raymond to compete in the women’s doubles event at the Pilot Pen next month.
In a statement, Davenport said
I am very excited to announce that I will return to professional tennis at the Pilot Pen in August. I hate the word ‘retirement,’ but this season was such a struggle physically for me, and I can’t imagine playing again.
Davenport was last spotted playing tennis in September last year and the player herself said in December that motherhood would make a return to the court next to impossible.
In her illustrious career, Davenport has bagged three Grand Slam singles tournaments — US Open in 1998, Wimbledon in 1999, and the Australian Open in 2000. The American has also won an Olympic gold in 1996 and earned over $21 million in prize money.
