The ongoing differences between McLaren team-mates, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso appear to be back on speaking terms after a meeting at the Turkish Grand Prix.
Hamilton, the 22-year-old rookie sensation of the season, leads Spaniard Alonso by seven points in the world championships, with six races remaining.
The duo’s relationship was deteriorated a month ago, at the Hungarian Grand Prix incident. The two drivers also became embroiled in a battle on and off the track. Speculations were on that Alonso is contemplating in quitting McLaren, before the seasons end.
In a statement, McLaren said:
The drivers clearly understand the team’s approach of providing them, to the best of our ability, with equality and the same opportunity of winning. We discussed the events of Hungary with both drivers independently yesterday, following which Fernando and Lewis met in the hotel and found a constructive way forward. We are now turning our full attention to the Turkish Grand Prix and the rest of the season.
For now, the most successful team in Formula 1, McLaren can hope to push on with their season, though time will tell whether the peace pact is permanent or momentary with both confronting for the similar title.
