Maria Sharapova is indeed a true champion - fiercer the competition and the opponent’s the better she gets.

She’s has had a horrid run through the tournament but the top seed played like one, keeping herself composed and glued to the task and here she is with the result.

Sharapova came through all the hurdles up till the semis - here she seemed with returned spirit and with the easiest of ease rocked past the fourth seeded Kim Clijsters defeating her in a straight set match.

The Russian with her immense first serve and splendid ground strokes paved her way past the Belgian defeating her 6-4 6-2 in the second semifinal of the Australian open, to reach the finals at the Rod Laver Arena.

Clijsters was by far the favorite of the Aussie fanatics who called her the ‘Aussie Kim’ - but would have seen her playing for the last time at the Australian Open as the 23-year-old has announced her retirement.

Sharapova is set to take on the two time former champion Serena Williams - the two have had some brutal showdowns in the past and this one promises a lot as one’s desperate to prove herself and the other wants her maiden OZ title.
