Coming off Lewis’s best season, averaging career-highs in points and his versatility to hit 3-pointers or score on the low block make him a valuable number-one forward.
It’s being reported that all is set to a 5-year, $75 million deal with the Orlando Magic. Lewis’s quick pick-up reflects his true significance in the NBA.
Orlando can only sign Lewis to a five-year contract, while Seattle could sign Lewis to a six-year deal. However, the Magic and Seattle are in discussions about a sign-and-trade deal, that would give Lewis that sixth-year, help Orlando clear some salary and give Seattle something in return.
Lewis opted out of the final two years of his contract with Seattle in late May.
Opting for the 1998 NBA Draft, wherein he was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics with the third pick of the second round. Since then had a solid career as a forward including his first All-Star berth in the 2004-2005 season. Lewis holds the SuperSonics’ record for most three-pointers made. Over his 8-year career, he holds an average of 16.6 points per game, with his career high of 22.4 points per game.
Sensing glittering prospect of being involved with a first-class organization, the new endeavour seems exciting for Lewis.
