Great news for golfers in and around India as it is gearing up to host the $2.5 million event, the Johnnie Walker Classic 2008. India, being one of the booming destination for professional golf; the event here will certainly create a wonderful buzz for the players and golf fans around the globe.

The key feature of the event marks the return of former U.S. Masters and U.S. PGA champion, Vijay Singh who will be seen on the field, yet again.

Delighted to make a comeback Singh said,

I began my professional career in Asia, so I’m excited to be returning to my old stamping ground. I particularly enjoy playing in the Johnnie Walker Classic as it always boasts a top field of international players.

At the golfing arena, India can conceit of producing players like Jeev Milkha Singh, who won the Volvo Masters and China Open on the European Tour last year and also became the first player from the country to play at the Masters.

For the past few years India has been lobbying to bring as many major sporting events as possible ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Earlier, the Indian Olympic Association reached a consensus with Formula One in staging the Grand Prix by 2009.

Fast-improving players and flourishing economy is paving its way as an attractive destination to organize major events.

Launched in 1990, the Johnnie Walker Classic has been played in seven countries so far.

Jointly sanctioned by European and Asian tours the most awaited and longest running luxury golf experience will be held on the outskirts of New Delhi, scheduled from Feb, 28 and running up till March 2.
