An imperative 25-3 World Cup triumph over Ireland clearly states a message coming out of the French camp that they are back. Pick of the day, scrum-half Elissalde kicked five penalties while two brilliant second half tries from winger Vincent Clerc tattered Irish hearts in the Six Nations to give France the much needed success they deserved.
A sigh of relief was obvious on the face for coach Bernard Laporte as the team was almost on the brink of elimination and said,
We had to play well and win of course. We didn’t get the bonus, which is a shame but the important thing was to win and put ourselves well ahead of the Irish, so it is mission accomplished.
Hosts grabbed the game early on and never released their grip against the Irish who threw, a whole lot at them. Fly-half Ronan O’Gara scored Ireland’s only points with a first-half drop goal.
France seeking its first world title, ascends in Group D with 10 points and would progress to the last eight with a bonus- point victory against Georgia.
Ireland would probably have to score four tries and beat Argentina by more than seven points, in their final match to reach the quarter-finals.
