The 34-year-old Sampras remained at top of the rankings for 286 weeks. He won his last Grand Slam in 2002 before taking retirement from professional tennis.



World number one Federer is on his way to break this record. Meanwhile, the Swiss star has advanced to finals at Wimbledon to meet Raffle Nadal. If Federer wins, it would be his fourth Wimbledon title and eighth Grand Slam title.
