Top-seed Federer is going great guns as he produced a phenomenal display to see off a fired-up Andy Roddick 7-6 7-6 6-2 in a dazzling US Open quarter-final.
The American playing in front of his home crowd showed some astonishing forehand shots but could not survive the flawless display of power tennis, to face a 10th straight time defeat.
Eyeing for a fourth consecutive title on the US hard courts, Federer didn’t lose a game on his serve and had to wait until the sixth game of the third set to oust the fifth seed. That’s the reason why the Swiss holds a 14-1 career advantage over Roddick.
At the end Federer said:
I tried to hang in there. I didn’t have a break point until the third set. It was a tough match, and he was serving out of a tree. But I came through in the end in straight sets.
The victory sends Federer to a record-extending 14th straight Grand Slam semifinal, to face Nikolay Davydenko of Russia on Saturday.
In the women’s section, Venus Williams confronts Justin Henin who overcame Venus’s younger sister, Serena in straight sets to reach the semi-finals.
