Determined to win the title that has eluded him so far, world number one tennis player Roger Federer will kick off his French Open campaign with a first round encounter with American Michael Russell.
Federer has been handed a relatively easy draw and his first possible tough match would be in the fourth round where the 10-time Grand Slam winner might run into clay court-specialist Juan Carlos Ferrero. Ferrero won the title at the Roland Garros in 2003.
The trio of fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko, Fernando Gonzalez and Tommy Robredo has been clubbed in the same half as Federer in the tournament which bets underway on May 27.
If Federer managed to tame Ferro in the fourth round, he is likely to face Guillermo Canas, the 19th seeded Argentine who created a sensation by beating Federer twice in the month of March.
Federer would like to erase his past failures in the French Open and bid for becoming only the sixth man to win all four Grand Slam titles.
The graceful Swiss has already indicated his intentions by beating Rafael Nadal, the two-time French Open champion, in the final of the Hamburg Masters.
