kj choiSouth Korean stalwart KJ Choi proved it’s not for nothing that he’s tipped as the potential first Major winner from Asia. The Korean was in scintillating form as he turned in a sizzling second round of 66 to soar to the lead at the Barclays Classic in New York.

Choi’s sparkling round took him to 12-under at the halfway stage of the tournament and thee Korean enjoys a two-shot cushion, ahead of American Rich Beem who carded 68 in the second round.

While Choi made an improvement from his overnight second position, opening round leader Rory Sabbatini could not maintain the momentum and slipped to be tied third after carding 71. Also sharing the third spot were Steve Stricker and Geoff Ogilvy.

Choi has had an impressive season so far, notching up two PGA Tour titles and he looked determined for a hat-trick here as he went for his round.

The Korean reeled off four birdies and an eagle to, as against the lone bogey at the par-four seventh holes.

Among those who missed the cut included US Open champion Angel Cabrera, Luke Donald and former world number one Vijay Singh.
