Sania Mirza had mixed fortune in the Istanbul Cup where she crashed out of the singles event but managed to reach the second round in the doubles.
The Indian tennis ace lost to American Meghann Shaughnessy 4-6, 3-6 and this was her second successive first round defeat in a WTA Tour event.
Sania, however, put the setback behind and partnered Chan Yung Jan of Chinese Taipei to beat the Romanian pair of Sorana Cirstea and Agnes Szatmari 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of the doubles event.
In her previous tournament, the Morocco Open, Sania was seeded top both in the singles and doubles. In singles, the Hyderabadi girl made an early exit where she was beaten in the first round by a qualifier but she and her American partner Vania King managed to win the doubles title there.
In the second round of the Istanbul Cup, the Sania- Chan pair will lock horns with the German duo of Sandra Kloesel and Anna Koumantou.
