In-form K J Choi’s campaign in the US PGA Tour’s Deutsche Bank Championship was cut short in the first round after a back pain forced the South Korean stalwart to pull out of the event.
Choi, who has been going through a purple patch with two titles already under his belt, turned in a card of two-over 73 at the Tournament Players Club of Boston before deciding to withdraw.
A Reuters report quoted Choi’s manager Michael Yim as saying that the golfer felt the pain on one of the first two holes.
He, however, assured that it’s not series and said
He will definitely play the next two weeks. He just needs time off now. His body has told him he needed some rest.
Choi tasted his first PGA Tour triumph this season at the Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial tournament in June and his second victory came at the inaugural AT&T National in July.
Choi, who began as a weightlifter before shifting focus to golf, has won six titles since joining the PGA Tour in 2000 and is tipped to be the potential first Asia to win a Major.
