brandt snedekerA scintillating final round of nine-under 63 fetched American rookie Brandt Snedeker his first PGA title at the Wyndham Championship.

Hardly any one gave Snedeker a chance as the American began the final day five shots off the pace. He, however, came up with a sparkling final round, studded with as many as 10 birdies, against just one bogey at 12th hole to aggregate 22-under 266, just two shots ahead of fellow Americans Tim Petrovic, Jeff Overton and Billy Mayfair, all of whom were on 268.

The American sunk a whopping six birdies in his blemish-free front nine before making the turn. On his way back, he parred the first two holes before dropping a bogey on the 12th. To ensure that the dropped shot did not derail his campaign, Snedeker slotted four birdies to finish a highly satisfying round.

Elated to have broken the duck, Snedeker later said

Sounds pretty unbelievable. It’s a great day.

His previous best was a third place finish at the Buick Invitational earlier this year. His triumph at Wyndham also earned him a two-year exemption at the US PGA Tour, besides a place in the field for next year’s Masters.
