The battle as always was stiff but Alonso managed to dominate the Shanghai circuit to finish at the pole position ahead of championship rival Schumacher who finished sixth.
The Spaniard was the fastest in all the three sessions and clinched the first pole position for seven races... The circuit may have been drenched in water but nothing mattered to the ever so resurgent championship leader.
Alonso was aware that the tyres would be the deciding factor... The Michelins used by Renault proved more efficient in the wet condition as the Ferrari’s Bridgestone tyres seemed less suited to the altered conditions.
If there is no improvement in the conditions then Schumi’s chance of overtaking Alonso may be under peril... Though, it will be an interesting showdown but the seven time F1 champ may find himself at bay in another Chinese Grand Prix.
