Ending a seven-match losing streak, Henin wins a vivacious encounter against Venus to turn up at the US Open finale. Both traded forehands, service breaks and shifts of momentum at the middle of points, but the Belgian looked every bit like the World No.1. Eyeing to add a second US crown to the one she grabbed in 2003, came through 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 in straight sets to became the second player to defeat both Williams sisters in a similar grand slam.

Ecstatic Henin said:

I really believed I could do it, and that’s maybe why I did. I don’t think a lot of people thought I could beat her here in this tournament. I was really proud. It’s not easy to play Serena and Venus, you know.

Henin a hot favorite tonight confronts No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova in the title match, featuring two past open champions. Though dominant 14-2 lifetime against Kuznetsova, the Russian did win their last meeting in Berlin earlier this year.

The winner of today’s men’s semi-final between Serbian Novak Djokovic and Spaniard David Ferrer will earn the prize of a first grand slam final. Roger Federer, who attempts to win his fourth consecutive title and his 12th grand slam, is expected to cruise through the other semi-final against Russian Nikolay Davydenko.
